A national civic honor
The National Civic Engagement Honor Society recognizes students who demonstrate exceptional civic knowledge, service, leadership, and character—regardless of where they attend school.

What we recognize
The Society honors young people who pair civic understanding with meaningful service, responsible leadership, and character worthy of public trust.
Understand constitutional government, civic institutions, public issues, rights, responsibilities, and the processes of self-government.
Contribute meaningful time and talent to school, community, public agencies, nonprofits, or other qualifying forms of civic and community service.
Demonstrate initiative, collaboration, communication, judgment, and a willingness to take responsibility for improving the community.
Practice integrity, respect, civil discourse, accountability, and responsible participation even when people disagree.
Our Model
Membership is not tied to whether a school operates a club, chapter, or local organization. Eligible students apply directly or are nominated and are evaluated against national standards.
Schools, educators, counselors, and community leaders may help identify and verify students, but the honor belongs to the student and is conferred nationally.
Membership distinctions
The framework recognizes entry-level civic achievement and creates room for students to earn advanced distinctions through deeper service, leadership, and civic work.
